Elastic gussets and pull-on loops ensure that the boots are easy to put on.  The short pile lining feels warm and comfortable. The boot has a hidden wedge to make walking more comfortable.The flat outsole does not collect dirt. Handmade of a natural rubber compound.

Rubber boots, just like any other boots, will serve you longer if taken care of appropriately. Here are a few tips on how to care for your boots:

  • Wash the boots every now and then with lukewarm soapy water and a sponge – once the boots get too grimy the rubber becomes hard to clean
  • Avoid using a hard brush or solvent-based detergents
  • Dry the boots at room temperature, avoid airing cabinets and boiler rooms
  • It’s worth conditioning the rubber surface of the boots with Nokian Footwear’s rubber conditioner. The conditioner will restore the original shine of the rubber and preserve its elasticity. The rubber conditioner keeps the rubber surface dirt-repellent. It also helps keep light-coloured rubber surfaces clean.

The most important raw material of your boots is natural rubber made from the latex of the rubber tree. Genuine natural rubber is a renewable natural resource that is very resistant to mechanical abrasion and maintains its softness even in cold weather. Natural rubber is, however, poorly resistant to ozone, oil and high temperatures. That’s why softeners as well as filler, colouring, preservative and vulcanisation agents are added to the rubber compound. In addition to natural rubber, some rubber compounds contain synthetic rubbers, which withstand abrasion, oil and chemicals better than natural rubber. Special compounds are particularly important in occupational footwear designed for demanding conditions.

Store your boots upright in conditions no warmer than room temperature. Light and heat will damage the rubber surface, so don’t store your boots in direct sunlight or in a hot room. On the other hand, keeping your boots in an unheated storeroom or at a cabin over winter will not damage them.
 

Boots that are turning grey

At the manufacturing stage, the rubber surface of the boot is finished with lacquer and silicone. With use, however, the silicone on the surface of the boot wears off, particularly if the boots are used often or they are continually exposed to sunlight. When this happens, the surface of the boot is particularly susceptible to hardening effects of UV radiation, which causes the surface of the boot to go grey and even, at a later date, to perish.

It’s worth conditioning boots regularly with a silicone-based rubber conditioner. The conditioner will restore the rubber’s elasticity and prevent greying.

There is also another reason why your boots might turn grey. Sometimes the agents added to the rubber compound may rise to the surface of the boot even after vulcanisation and appear as grey chalk-like areas. This wax-like surface can easily be polished by wiping it with either silicone or a conditioner for rubber and plastic products. The greying phenomenon is temporary and does not affect the quality of your boots.
